The science
For clinicians

Nest products are formulated around the biology of the developing infant skin microbiome. This page exists for the practitioners who want to understand exactly what's in the product, why it's there, and what the peer-reviewed research says.

The biology behind Nest

The microbiome rationale

Why pH matters from day one

The infant skin microbiome begins establishing at birth and continues developing through approximately the first two years of life. During this period the skin surface acidifies from near-neutral toward the healthy range of pH 5.0–5.5 — a range that selectively supports beneficial bacteria while inhibiting pathogenic colonization.

Most conventional baby wipes are formulated at pH 6.5–7.0. Applied six to ten times daily, this repeated alkaline exposure may interfere with the skin's natural acidification process. Nest wipes are formulated at pH 5.0–5.5 — matched to the biology of the process already occurring.

The prebiotic approach

Feeding the bacteria already there

NatureBiome™ combines inulin and alpha-glucan oligosaccharide — two topical prebiotics with distinct mechanisms. Inulin selectively feeds beneficial cutaneous bacteria. Alpha-glucan oligosaccharide supports the balance between commensal and transient bacterial populations on the skin surface.

A prebiotic approach — supporting existing beneficial bacteria rather than introducing new strains — was chosen over probiotics for stability, regulatory clarity, and cosmetic-level claim integrity. No live organisms, no refrigeration requirements, no probiotic survival questions. The prebiotics work with what's already there.

All claims on this page and on Nest packaging are cosmetic-level only. Nest products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration.
